The AACD Accreditation Process

Founded in 1984, the AACD is dedicated to continuing education in the rapidly evolving field of cosmetic dentistry. Accreditation represents the acknowledgment of a doctor’s excellence in aesthetically-focused treatments.

The process of gaining AACD accreditation often takes years to accomplish and requires a strong dedication to continuing education combined with a firm resolve to produce exceptional results.

Candidates are given up to five years to complete the accreditation and must undergo a three-part process that includes a written examination, submission of complex clinical cases, and an oral evaluation.

To advance through the program, candidates must submit five clinical cases that demonstrate superior diagnostic ability, technical skill, and aesthetic excellence. These cases are then evaluated by a panel of examiners and graded against established AACD criteria. Once all five cases have passed, the candidate will qualify for the final step: an oral examination, which tests their knowledge, reasoning, and communication as they discuss both their submitted cases and a pre-selected case provided by the examiners.

In May of 2006, Dr. Montgomery received his Accreditation by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and has completed all levels of membership provided by the organization. With this accreditation, Dr. Montgomery joins an elite group of only 6 other dentists in Minnesota and 410 dentists worldwide who have achieved this prestigious recognition.

What Does Being a Fully Accredited Fellow Mean?

According to the AACD, a fully Accredited Fellow is:

“…the highest credential earned in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). In addition to meeting the rigorous requirements of an Accredited Member, an Accredited Fellow has successfully completed cosmetic dentistry that meets the Accreditation standard of excellence set forth by the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry for an additional 45 patients. By completing this process, an Accredited Fellow demonstrates a continued ability and sustained commitment to deliver excellence in cosmetic dentistry.”

When looking for the most experienced and qualified person to enhance your smile, you can be confident in Dr. Montgomery’s exceptional skills.
