Did you know that worn out teeth lack the ability to chew vegetables and tear up the meat that you eat? It’s much like using a dull knife to cut up your food. Since our digestive system cannot digest cellulose (fiber), your teeth aids to crush and expose the plant fibers to allow your digestive system to absolve the nutrients. An example is how corn shows up in your waste. I know, TMI (too much information). I guess mother was right when she said “chew your food”.

Did you see the Seinfeld episode on the “anti-dentite”? For this episode, the comedy show refers the term “anti-dentite” to people who dislike dentists. No one likes to admit it, but fear and anxiety is a very common experience when visiting the dentist. These infrequent trips often result in teeth and gum disease.
Remember, the teeth and gums are the gateway to the health of your body, so don’t’ neglect!
So here are some tips and (yes) good news for you:

1. Voice your concern. Wether that apprehension stems from the fear of pain, noise, or the often overlooked-but very common- claustrophobia from having someone work in your mouth. Discussing this up front with your dental team means they can adjust the treatment to make you as comfortable as possible.
Fearful of the noise? We offer headphones so you can listen to music or watch a program on TV.

2. Sedation Dentistry is Available. Dentists may use sedation, however this should be a last resort. Although this may be a pricey procedure, some patients just prefer to be out to avoid the sounds associated with the drill or in order to endure multiple procedures.

3. Laser Therapy. A wide variety of procedures are now available. Some of the common procedures are tooth removal, teeth brightening and even improving gummy smiles. Ask us about other procedures.

4. Bonding. What used to take several appointment can now be done in one office visit. Want to fill any small chips, cracks and gaps? It is amazing what this simple procedure can do to change the look of your tooth and the smile that you want to have.

These are just some of the new adjustments available in dentistry. Remember we work with you to keep you healthy and looking good. So don’t hesitate anymore and make that appointment you’ve been needing.

Notice anything on Chessa’s teeth? If you said no, then now you know one of the reasons why Invisalign has been a popular solution for people straightening their teeth. For most orthodontic issues, Invisalign will straighten your teeth without the metal brackets and wires. You simply pop in the aligner trays (clear plastic retainers) made specifically for you. Every 2 weeks, a new set is made for you, until your treatment is complete. In many cases, teeth move quickly than traditional braces.

Are you a good candidate for Invisalign? Do you have crowding, spacing, misaligned teeth, overbites and underbites? Then, you are probably a good candidate for this procedure. Feel free to contact our office to schedule a consultation.

WHAT IS DENTAL BONDING?

Click here to view the embedded video.

Bonding is an excellent technique for minor dental corrections. It is affordable, quick and often done in one sitting. It is used to correct a variety of dental flaws such as cracks, discolorations, gaps, tooth decay and in instantly repairing a broken front tooth.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

After inspecting the tooth in question, a composite resin (material used in bonding) is selected that matches your tooth. The outer layer of the tooth is slightly roughened then re contoured. A strong adhesive is applied to help the resin stick. The next step would be to change the shape of your tooth. A high intensity light is used to harden the composite. While most dentists can fill in chips, cracks and gaps, it is important that you choose a dentist that has extensive training, artistry and experience in this type of complex bonding. You want your tooth to look natural, have a proper fit and complement your smile.

HOW LONG DOES THE BONDING LAST?

About 10 to 15 years. Bonding will still have its limitations. It is susceptible to staining, and loss of gloss. Some touch up work can be done. Proper oral care and hygiene is necessary to maintain the beauty of your new bonded tooth. It is also important to avoid abrasive toothpastes and cleaning be done by a professional qualified hygienist skilled in bonding maintenance.

Is Bonding right for you? I will be happy to assess the condition of your tooth/teeth and smile to determine if cosmetic bonding is the right option for you.
